According to the 2022 census, Bangladesh’s population stands at 169,828,921 individuals, comprising 84,077,203 males, 85,653,120 females, and 12,629 individuals identifying as the third gender. Among them, 116,066,925 reside in rural areas, while 53,761,986 reside in urban areas.
The Population and Housing Census dataset for the Census 2022, compiled by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), consists of two main components. Firstly, the Population Census offers socio-economic and demographic information for all individuals residing in the country at a specific point in time, down to the smallest geographical unit. Secondly, the Housing Census provides data on all dwelling units in the country, including their conditions and available facilities, also down to the smallest geographical unit. Although the dataset covers Bangladesh’s smallest geographical units, it is currently available up to the District (Admin 02) level.
All data within this dataset are sourced from the Final Population and Housing Census report published by the BBS to ensure meaningful access. For more detailed information and any further queries or questions, it is advisable to refer to the full report.
As of my last update in January 2022, Bangladesh had a population of over 165 million people, making it one of the most densely populated countries in the world. However, this figure may have changed since then due to factors such as birth rates, mortality rates, and migration. For the most accurate and up-to-date population data, it’s best to consult recent sources such as the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics or international organizations like the United Nations.
